Backhand

If you want to hit your backhand with power, you've got to use a grip that ensures the racket face is not open when you make contact with the ball. To all intents and purposes, this means placing your palm almost on top of the racket handle. Assuming you're right-handed (otherwise, reverse what I say!), hold the throat of the racket in your left hand and point it out in front of you in edge-down position. Now extend your right hand out flat and lower it down towards the handle, grasping it in such a way that your thumb wraps around the left side. Brush the strings up the back of the ball to impart some topspin and you can now start letting it rip!
